All roads lead to Zomba this Thursday where Chancellor College has organised a Grand Alumni Reunion as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations to be held in the Great Hall.

Professor Sosten Chiotha, organising chairperson of the reunion, told The Nation that the occasion will not only celebrate four decades of knowledge generation and sharing.

“We, most importantly, want to use the reunion to bring to the attention of the alumnus the critical needs of the college. You understand the college is going through some hurdles bordering on inadequate funding,” he said.

“We want our alumni to get the picture of research strides happening at the college. There is a lot of research that has been accomplished in the area languages, chemistry, biology and arts,” he said.

As part of the commemoration and the grand alumni reunion, there will be activities such as public lectures and the college open day.

All Chancellor College alumni, including those that graduated from original campuses (before the move to Zomba) are being cordially invited to this auspicious alumni reunion.

While celebrating the 40 years at Chirunga Campus, Alumni and other stakeholders will show their commitment to the university by creating a fund that will support student scholarships and the construction of lecture theatres and hostels on the campus.

On sale before and during the event will be a special commemoration cloth, academic regalia (Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD Gowns, Mortar Boards and Hoods) and various memorabilia.

Chancellor College, Zomba (Chirunga) campus, opened in 1973 by the amalgamation of three colleges such as Chancellor College (Chichiri campus), the Institute of Public Administration at Mpemba and the Soche Hill College of Education of Blantyre.
